What is History of Last Minute Folk? The Last Minute Folk Concert Series, presented at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Topeka, began in 2003. It went on hiatus for a few years in 2008 but resumed in 2011 and is going strong. Most concerts are suitable for all ages. Our nationally and internationally known singer-songwriters perform original music and represent the best in folk, Americana, and traditional music genres, including blues, Americana, bluegrass, contemporary, and world-inspired, to name but a few.
The Venue Beginning in November 2016, Last Minute Folk will be holding concerts at the gallery space of the historic Jayhawk State Theatre, 720 SW Jackson in downtown Topeka. Last Minute Folk presents shows in a true listening room setting, offering exceptional acoustics and concert style seating. The stage and sound system are arranged without restriction to sight lines and no seat in the house is more than 40 feet from the stage, adding to the intimacy of the performance. The evening consists of two 45-minute sets of music with an intermission to provide an opportunity to enjoy refreshments and interact with the musicians.
